I actually agree with Tom on this one. Although conditioning is generally said not to effect batteries lion, I believe it does, but not obviously with to the degree that it would affect say a nickel cadmium battery. In my experience, keeping the mains plugged in to the laptop and not discharging the battery fully now and again can affect the performance of your laptop battery in a negative way. Thanks for the reminder Tom.
I have a Macbook, I run my battery down to the hill every day. This is 15 mins left! Also to get best performance from batteries in laptops is to run low level applications. My experience is I can use final cut pro for 4 hours and also other high end applications and I still get enough battery life to get it back on charge when it gets low.
Actually Tom, keeping the battery in the mains is a very good thing because you are changing chemical energy into electrical energy. Keeping appliances like laptops or camcorders connected to the mains does not affect the battery life whatsoever. This is why in manuals they always say “Charge for so many hours before first use” because without that charge, that chemical energy has not been made into electrical energy. The same with car batteries, Lithium Ions and even batteries like AA or AAAs.
Hi Tom, I think all batteries ware out eventually, there are a few things you can do to slow down the wear-n-tear but it’s inevitable and cannot be avoided.
